ROULETTE

1952 - 1957

Roulette (Sweden) was a small, independent 78-rpm record label founded in 1952 in Stockholm by Birgitta Eleonora Maria “Bibi” Nyström, a Swedish singer and actress. Its releases focused on light entertainment and schlager of the early-to-mid 1950s, with Bibi Nyström herself appearing frequently. The label worked with local musicians and studios and, like many small Scandinavian imprints of the era, produced limited runs aimed at the domestic market.

By 1954–1956, Roulette began dabbling in the newer 7-inch formats (EPs and 45s) alongside its core 78-rpm output. However, activity appears to taper off by 1957. There is no documented formal wind-down, but the catalog trails out and Nyström’s subsequent records surface on other imprints, suggesting Roulette effectively became inactive by 1957/58.

Importantly, this Swedish Roulette has no connection to the better-known Roulette Records launched in New York in 1957. They were entirely separate companies sharing only the name.
