VELVET FACE

1910 - 1927

Velvet Face records, launched in late 1910 in a 10" format and expanded to 12" in 1913, initially reissued recordings from Bell and Winner labels. This series ended in late 1914.

The label was revived under Joseph Batten's direction from late 1921 to 1927. In this era, both 10" and 12" records featured unique and sought-after contemporary classical pieces, along with some early American dance band music from Gennett. These post-war recordings were exclusive to Velvet Face, unlike the earlier issues shared with Winner.

The pre-war label design was red with gold lettering, with slight variations, while the post-war label started purple with gold lettering before switching to green with gold. The first series included a "Celebrity Records" sub-series.

Velvet Face Records ceased operations in 1927, when it was replaced by Edison Bell Electron.
