THE FLAG RECORD

1910 - 1912

The Flag Record was one of the many pre-WWI records produced by Beka Records in Germany for the British market, dating to about 1912.

Production Volume: About 550 record issues were produced, featuring catalogue numbers aligned with Beka Grand records.

Sizes and Labeling: Records were available in 10" and 12" sizes, with the 12" versions displaying distinct lilac and gold labels. These larger records shared catalogue numbers with Beka master records.

The Flag Records: This specific series wasn't prominently advertised in trade journals. It is suggested that they were sold as "tallyman" records, involving door-to-door sales under contracts for a fixed number of records over a period, with a 'free' gramophone provided on loan.

Historical Context: The Flag Records possibly emerged after Beka Record Co. stopped supplying John Bull records in summer 1911, aligning with a German trademark application for The Flag Records in December 1911. The style and marketing strategy of The Flag Records were similar to other British patriotic tallyman labels like Britannic and John Bull.
