GLOBOPHON

The art violin maker Carl August Völcker founded the Hannover-based record factory Globophon in autumn 1905 together with Franz Erdtelt, who had already registered "Globophon" on July 25, 1905 as a trademark for gramophones, phonographs, records and cylinders.

Völcker and Erdtelt were managing directors with equal rights and brought in "their recipe for the production of the mass and their machines for the utilization of this process" as a company contribution.

Völcker and his son Carl was the company's recording technician and another son was in charge of production.

The records, which were initially recorded on one side, were ready for the market in March 1906; from mid-1906 they were already available on both sides. At 1.90 marks (retail price for the 25 cm record on both sides) they were very inexpensive. Some of the recordings were made in London. Mainly export.

The company was dissolved on October 16, 1917.
