CORONET

1945

The record company was launched in 1945 by African American songwriter Joe Greene. Dick Stabile served as the recording director. The label initially named Coronet began producing various genres, including jazz and rhythm-and-blues, along with some pop releases.

However, following objections from Coronet magazine regarding the use of the name, the label was soon renamed to Gem. This renaming occurred around July 1945, and later, in March 1946, it transitioned to Sepia Records, Inc., introducing the G & G label as a replacement for Gem.
