Балкантон

1952 - today

Балкантон (Balkanton), a state-owned Bulgarian record label founded in 1952, initially operated under the name "Radioprom." The label's early focus was on gramophone records, with the first long-playing record manufactured in 1958.

In 1962, the company was renamed Balkanton, marking the start of vinyl record production.

By the 1980s, annual LP production reached 9 million units. The label produced a vast library of Bulgarian and foreign music, including folk, classical, and popular genres.

After several reorganization attempts in the 1990s, Balkanton was privatized in 1999 and now focuses on reissuing old recordings in digital formats.
