Two-Beat

1951

Two-Beat was a tiny Hollywood, California 78rpm imprint that surfaced briefly around early 1951.

Its known output centers on two ten-inch 78s credited to Ben Pollack and His Pick-a-Rib Boys, a West Coast traditional-jazz unit featuring Matty Matlock, Dick Cathcart, Elmer “Moe” Schneider, Ray Sherman, Walt Yoder, and Pollack himself. The sides trace to a Los Angeles session dated August 8, 1950; Two-Beat appears to have pressed a small run and then faded quickly.

The same masters were picked up and reissued by Savoy Records in mid-1951, which strongly suggests Two-Beat functioned as a short-lived, project-style vehicle rather than a fully built-out company.
