Ronnex
1951 - ?
Ronnex Records (established 1951) was a Belgian independent label founded by record-shop owner and producer Albert Van Hoogten.
From the early 1950s onward, Ronnex issued mainly 10" 78-rpm and later 45-rpm singles and became one of the key Benelux outlets for rock ’n’ roll, pop and light entertainment, releasing both Flemish and Walloon artists as well as international repertoire.
Through Van Hoogten’s brother Rene Jan (better known as Ray Maxwell), who ran the affiliated Moonglow label in the United States, Ronnex licensed and distributed influential American recordings in Belgium, including sides by Bill Haley, Little Richard and the Righteous Brothers, while at the same time building a local roster with acts such as Jack Hammer, Freddy Sunder, The Shake Spears, Burt Blanca and others.
Over the following decades Ronnex evolved from a small post-war indie into a recognised regional player, but eventually lost its independence when it was taken over by BMG Music and later sold on to Pop Eye Records.
