The Danish record label National was established in the early 1930s by the music publisher Wilhelm Hansen.
It primarily focused on producing and distributing Danish music, including classical and popular genres. National operated independently until the late 1950s, when it was acquired by the multinational company EMI. Following the acquisition, the National label was gradually phased out, and its catalog was integrated into EMI's broader portfolio.
