Karusell
1953 - 1970s
Karusell was a Swedish record label founded in 1953 by Carl-Gustaf Niren and bandleader Simon Brehm. The label played an important role in introducing jazz to Scandinavia, licensing releases from Norman Granz’s jazz labels during the 1950s and 1960s.
In 1962, Karusell was acquired by Deutsche Grammophon GmbH. Starting in the early 1970s, the label was mainly used in Sweden, while its German counterpart, “Karussell” (with two "s"), was used internationally.
According to the artist Bengt Johansson, Karusell’s office was located at Sandhamnsgatan 4 in the Gärdet area of Stockholm. The label remained active until the 1970s.
