FONODAN

1952 - mid 1950s

Fonodan was a small Danish 78-rpm label established in 1952 (Copenhagen), registered as “Fonodan v/ Peter Willemoes.”

Its first known release featured organist Finn Viderø (recorded 18 April 1952 at Flintholm Church, Copenhagen), issued as VME 1501 with matrices FD 1/FD 2; the title appeared in The Gramophone’s “Continental Record Issues” in October 1952. Alongside the VME classical series, Fonodan also used an NC catalogue block (e.g., a 10" 78 by Else Brems). Business listings in Kraks Vejviser confirm the company was active/listed in 1954 and 1955. No verified defunct date has surfaced; the label’s discographical footprint appears confined to the early–mid 1950s, and it likely did not transition into 45/LP production.
