ORO-TONE

The ORO-TONE Company, based in Chicago, Illinois, was mainly known for manufacturing tonearms and diaphragms, with notable products like the ORO-TONE PORTABLE.

The company was incorporated in June 1922 and was located at 1000 George Street in Chicago. ORO-TONE’s business primarily revolved around phonograph parts manufacturing, including products like tone arms, reproducers, indestructible diaphragm, attachments for Victor-Edison and Edison-Victor record players, and a portable talking machine known as ‚Porto-Type‘, priced around $35.

In addition to these, they also had a manufacturing plant in Canada for the Canadian phonograph trade. Their range extended to other supplies and parts such as steel needles, sapphire and diamond points, fibre needle cutters, automatic stops, motors, and various radio supplies.

By 1925, they had introduced a 3-in-1 recording attachment for home recordings and a ‚radio tone arm‘.

In 1926, their product line expanded to include radio speaker tubes, and by 1927, they had upgraded their factory to include new plating equipment for gold, nickel, and oxidized copper and bronze plating.

The first electric pick-up tone arms were introduced by ORO-TONE in August of 1928.
