HISTORY
Albert Ebner, born in Bad Cannstatt in 1891, developed an electric drive for gramophones around 1917/18.
In 1919 he founded the company Albert Ebner & Co. in Bad Cannstatt, under which he marketed gramophones with an electric drive, known as „Electromphon“. These products were in the upper price range, with only expensive floor-standing models available at first.
A cheaper table model followed in 1920.
In 1921 the company was incorporated as Electromophon – AG Stuttgart Vaihingen. Despite its success in the 1920s, the company was unable to withstand the economic crisis of 1929 and filed for bankruptcy in late 1929.
At the beginning of 1930, electric motors were still being produced and the last model „No. 33“ was advertised before the company ceased trading in the early 1930s.
