CARRYOLA

The Carryola Company of America, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has an interesting but relatively brief history. The company was in business from 1924 to 1928, according to research by Steve Daily, the Curator of Research Collections of Milwaukee County Historical Society​​. It specialized in manufacturing talking machines, specifically mechanical gramophones and phonographs​​.

The company’s operations were located at various addresses in Milwaukee, including 373 Broadway, 647 Clinton Street, 642, 648, & 653 Clinton Street, and an additional 4-story building at 279 Walker Street​​​​.

Notably, one of their prominent products was the Carryola phonograph record player, with promotional photographs from 1928 showcasing various models, factory interiors, and promotional activities​​.

In 1929, after its operation period, the Carryola Company was acquired by The Allen Hough Manufacturing Co. of Racine, Wisconsin. This acquisition led to the formation of a new corporation named the Allen Hough Carryola Company​.

This marked the end of the Carryola Company of America as an independent entity.
